The orginial scanner we rec'd broke the first time we tried to use it. We got a "lamp" error. We ordered a replacement, and when it was installed, something was missing to make it incompatiable with our computer! I just used this scanner in my office for the first time today. I wanted to scan a simple colored document that is very delicate.It is brand new, but it has been sitting there for a year without being used. Unfortunately this means we cannot return it.
Installing was not hard. But just installing the driver will not get the scanner to work with Photoshop. I had to install the whole HP software bundle. OK, fine, whatever it takes to get it to scan.
And then I realized the scanner would stuck right in the middle of the job. I waited and waited, nothing happened. The sensor light was just sitting in the middle of the tracks, shining at my delicate document for minutes. Scanner would not respond to any button. Software on my computer froze, too. I had to pull the power cord on the scanner. Repeat the process for about 7 frustrating times, and I finally got it to scan a sub-optimal picture. I wanted to try getting a better pic with a new scan, but I decided not to put too much light on the delicate document.
BOTTOM LINE: This scanner is worse than one that I used 8 years ago. Much worse. I thought scanner technology must've improved over the years. Oh well. AVOID THIS SCANNER.

I have read through all the reviews listed below and I must say I am very surprised by all the negative comments. I purchase a refurbished scanner for use at work. It arrived in its original box with the software and other accessories still sealed in the original packaging. I installed the software with no problems. I have used to the scanner to scan voluminous textual documents utilizing the OCR software so they can be redrafted in Word and it is as close to perfect as I could have hoped for. I also use it to scan documents into .pdf format for delivery via e-mail and permanent storage and again achieved beautiful results. In the last month or so that I have been using this scanner, the software has not locked up on me, nor has the feeder jammed or any similar problem. It did take a little time for me to master the various software features, but I can't complain about that. I'm not sure why others are having such issues, but I am very happy with mine. I should note, I DO NOT use this scanner for photographs. (I have a Canon photo scanner for that.)Customer Review: DOESNT DO ALL I WANTED

I was very unhappy with the end result with these guys. The unit came in just fine and quickly, but when I found out that it was incompatible with our network setup; The service went down the drain, and they refused to take back the unit.
