Customer Review: Okay for a cheap older camera
Summary: 3 Stars
Good for quick and easy shots at parties and such. It's not a tiny little camera and obviously not pro material, but the quality is reasonable considering the cost and age. At 3MP, it is a good choice for someone who wants snapshots to post online or wants only smaller-size prints. I'm the world's worst about fuzzy pictures and this camera is fast enough to offset my shaky hands.
The only real drawback - and it's significant - is that the lens cover slides open too easily. Mine opens inside the camera case. Considering that opening the cover also turns on the camera, that means battery drain as a side effect. Presumably everyone uses rechargeable batteries these days. Even so, I'd recommend keeping the batteries out of the camera until you're ready to use it, or you'll find that you don't have enough power to snap anything.

The HP Photosmart 435 digital camera delivers great digital snapshots with 3.1 effective MP resolution and up to 5x continuous digital zoom. Snap a photo and select your preferred destination - e-mail addresses, printers, and more - using HP Instant Share. Connect your camera to a computer and your photos are instantly sent. The camera also features streaming video capability that allows video capture, which is limited only by the size of the camera's memory (16 MB internal memory and up to 128 MB SD/MMC memory card slot). On-camera manual controls and menus allow camera users to override automatic functions to add some creative touches. Help wizards act as a guide. Easily print without a computer via USB cable, or the camera's memory card. Optional dock enables effortless sharing of photos to computer (or select HP printers), recharging of batteries, and slide shows on TV using wireless remote.If you're looking for a point-and-shoot, go-anywhere snapshot digital camera, the HP PhotoSmart 435 is a great choice. Optics and Resolution
The PhotoSmart 435 features a 3.1-megapixel resolution (effective) that produces images as large as 2048 x 1536 pixels. It offers one low resolution mode: 640 x 480. A fixed-focus camera, the PhotoSmart 435 features a 5x digital zoom.
Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the PhotoSmart 435 can also record movie clips at 20 frames per second with sound. The QuickTime Motion JPEG format offers a limited resolution, which is great for capturing a short movie that can be e-mailed to friends and family, but is no replacement for a true camcorder.
More Features
With HP's Instant Share feature, you can customize your camera with e-mail aliases and distribution lists of your family and friends. For each picture, you can designate up to 14 destinations, including e-mail addresses, compatible printers, and more.

Storage and Transfer
Images can be stored using the internal 16 MB memory or on optional Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards. The internal 16 MB memory will store approximately 18 images at the PhotoSmart 435's 3-megapixel better setting (2048 x 1536). Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via ultrafast USB 2.0, which means it can be connected to any USB-compatible Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software. When used with USB 1.1 connection, transfer will slow to USB 1.1 rate.
Power and Size
The camera is powered by 2 AA batteries (alkalines included, rechargeables recommended). It measures 4.6 by 2.3 by 1.5 inches and weighs 6.4 ounces (including batteries).
